Delusion is Dangerous Poem and Video
I found a wonderful video animating a great poem about the origin of religious delusion and why it is dangerous.
Delusion
In the beginning, we are born,
into a wondrous world.
we know no language,
But we learn.
We know no forms of logic or reason,
But we learn.
We learn how to operate in our environments,
How food is grown,
How to clean ourselves,
How to keep ourselves healthy.
It’s only natural that we become curious
that we would need to know more.
Why is the sky blue?
Where did life come from?
Why are we here?
We need to know.
And if we don’t find out,
We guess.
We make it up.
And that works for a time.
But soon we start to believe the answers we’ve invented.
Soon we give it power.
Soon we give it principles.
We teach it to others.
We create dogma,
blasphemy.
We create “evil”
and to counter that evil…
punishment.
Delusion:
the seed of extremism
and man’s greatest assassin.
Delusion is dangerous.
