TN Church Members Carry Handguns to Worship Services
Of course in Tennessee there’s a news story about Christians going armed to church with handguns to “protect God’s people”.
Duane McGray takes his Bible to church on Sunday mornings.
He also takes his gun.
McGray, a former chief of public safety at Nashville International Airport, is a volunteer in the security ministry at First Baptist Church Hendersonville. He carries a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun to worship services to keep members and visitors safe.
“I have no problem in carrying a firearm in church,” he said. “I just know that it is necessary to protect God’s people.”
Safety has been on the minds of many local congregations recently, after a Southern Baptist pastor was gunned down in an Illinois pulpit during church services on March 8. Some local churches already rely on armed volunteers and off-duty police officers, while others say recent church shootings have made them realize they should be prepared, in case the unthinkable happens.

Only in a bible belt state like TN do Christians arm themselves to go to church. It is very hypocritical of a Christian to say there god is all powerful and protects them because they are believers but fill it is necessary to bring a firearm for protection while worshiping this god at church. One would think a christian that truly believed in the dogma would not feel it necessary to pack heat to church.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the right to bear arms. I have several weapons myself and would definitely go to a church service armed for protection from christians. Not sure if its just a southern thing but we southerners especially love our firearms.
The overall article is a good example of how christians feel they are in danger from nonbeliever because they are persecuted for their beliefs. However from the stories on church shooting I read its usually christians and former members of the church that are doing the shooting. Its amusing how they don’t go into details on the security to keep it hush hush from all those that are out to get them.
I especially enjoyed the quote from the sheriff at the end of the article, “The more time goes by, the more people will die”. What a keen observation.
