Congressman Reads Bible During Hearing

March 30th, 2009

During a House Subcommittee on Energy and Environment hearing earlier this week Illinois Rep. John Shimkus demonstrates his ridiculous position on climate change.   Shimkus begins to read several  Bible verses, before concluding: “The earth will end only when God declares its time to be over.  Man will not destroy this earth.  This earth will not be destroyed by a flood.”

Shimkus is clearly trying to say that since the bible says only god will destroy the world there is no need to worry about global warming because it will not destroy the world. It might be a little hard to believe without the video below.

What an embarrassment to the United States and an utter disregard for the principles of separation of church and state.  Politicians have every right to have their religious beliefs and crazy ideas but there is no excuse to bring them into a congressional hearing where they are supposed to be representing their constituents, state and country.  This is shameful.

Even more rediculous is Rep. Shimkus saying that the government should not worry about climate change because the bible says that people will not destroy the world, only god will. Lets not use science or anything else that makes sense only a book written two-thousand years ago and a belief it is the inspired writings of a supreme being.  What a fool.
